About

The Artistic Museum of Contemporary Art (AMOCA) is scheduled for opening in 2023-24 in Wales. The aim is to offer a meeting place for innovative, contemporary art by establishing AMOCA as a key platform and museum for progressive exhibitions, talks and symposiums. Through unprecedented collaborations with international curators and artists, at the forefront of their practices, AMOCA will further enhance the public’s appreciation of art. The museum will strive to strengthen the cultural landscape. The ambition is to engage in the global, contemporary art discourse and acquire a position as a leading museum for international, contemporary art.

Local
Purpose

AMOCA wants to provide an imaginative and contemporary experience of art to the Cardiff audience. Art that activates and inspires new ways of thinking and being together.

Artistic
Mission

AMOCA’s mission is to increase public access to contemporary art while promoting new knowledge through an extensive exhibition program and interdisciplinary projects. Through close collaboration with international curators and artists, AMOCA will broaden the traditional museum scope and foster creative development by disrupting conventional and stereotypical narratives. AMOCA will bridge the gap between the public and the institution by offering educational activities such as seminars, workshops, artists talks, interactive exhibitions, and an expansive digital platform featuring established artists as well as new talents and previously marginalised minorities. Additionally, AMOCA will provide opportunities for students at Cardiff University to experience a world-class contemporary art institution first-hand, thus gaining knowledge highly relevant for programmes such as Conservation or Journalism, media and culture.
